Actor Haaz Sleiman tells NewNowNext that he’s portraying the husband of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first openly gay superhero on the big screen – Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos of The Eternals.

“I just shot a Marvel film with the first openly gay superhero, The Eternals,” Sleimann told NewNowNext. “I’m married to the gay superhero Phastos, played by Atlanta’s Brian Tyree Henry, and we represent a gay family and have a child.”

Sleiman’s statements confirm reports from footage of the film shown at Brazil’s Comic Con Experience in December, which purportedly showed Phastos with his family. This also confirms Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s previous statement that Eternals would feature an “openly gay family man”.

But that’s not all. Sleimann says he and Henry will share the MCU’s first gay onscreen kiss as well.

“Oh, yeah, absolutely, and it’s a beautiful, very moving kiss,” Sleimann said. “Everyone cried on set. For me it’s very important to show how loving and beautiful a queer family can be. Brian Tyree Henry is such a tremendous actor and brought so much beauty into this part.”

Eternals is due out in theaters November 6.
