In the wake of director Zack Snyder’s announcement that the “Snyder Cut” – the now officially titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League – will come to HBO Max, the director has shared some new details about what audiences who saw the theatrical version, finished by director Joss Whedon, can expect.

“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie. You probably saw one-fourth of what I did,” Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter, also noting he has not seen the version of the film released to theaters.

THR states Zack Snyder’s Justice League could run up to four hours long – or it could be broken into six episodes. Snyder adds plans have been in the works since the film’s second anniversary in November 2019, when the hashtag “#releasethesnydercut” made the film trend enough for Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich to take notice.

“I always thought it was a thing that in 20 years, maybe somebody would do a documentary and I could lend them the footage, little snippets of a cut no one has ever seen,” Snyder said of his vision of the film.

“With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this,” adds his wife and Justice League co-producer Deborah Snyder. “You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.”

Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be on HBO Max sometime in 2021.
